Alliance Enables International Wireless Network Access through Local Providers

Vianet, the machine-to-machine communications provider, has announced its founding membership of the m2mGlobal Alliance, which has today launched its unified global machine-to-machine M2M wireless network. The Alliance, which is the first of its kind, will provide businesses with transparent GSM M2M connectivity in world markets, enabling application service providers to cost effectively offer M2M applications, such as fuel monitoring for airlines, environmental management and security systems, across the globe.

The Alliance is akin to an airline alliance such as OneWorld and consists of international specialised regional M2M service providers in multiple world markets. Through the Alliance, businesses can gain instant access to international markets through a local point of contact. Founding members of the alliance are KORE Technologies Inc, Wireless Maingate AB, Mach Communications Ltd and Vianet Ltd in the UK.

To date, the M2M market has remained largely domestic, driven by local companies and local application providers. Enterprises and M2M application providers wishing to move into expanding overseas markets have had to use roaming-based services with long-term serviceability and tariff considerations or negotiate agreements with individual service providers across multiple countries.

The new m2mGlobal Alliance consigns these headaches to the past, enabling customers to immediately gain access to reliable, global wireless network coverage through one local supplier in their home market with no risk and no complexity. Local support, language, billing, activation management and SIM support is managed through the current service provider relationship and the Alliance infrastructure manages the rest.

M2M applications are now becoming increasingly important to the ongoing activities of companies and there is a growing need to deploy these internationally. As a result, global service with local customer support is the new mantra, explains Robin Duke-Woolley, CEO of international analyst firm Beecham Research Ltd that specialises in the M2M services business. Global service with local support combines the reach and low cost point required with the need for rapid response to what are often critical applications. This excellent initiative by KORE and its partners aims to satisfy many concerns that international companies have with extending their use of M2M and is a welcome development for this market.

The m2mGlobal Alliance makes sound business sense as M2M customers now have fast access to reliable network coverage across the globe. No one wants the complication of having to deal with multiple service providers across a variety of countries. Liaising with one point of contact and knowing that the rest looks after itself not only removes the administrative burden of managing wireless network coverage but is much more cost effective, commented Ian Orrock, Vianet CEO. This innovative service enables the monitoring and management of assets across international boundaries. Typical examples include monitoring fuel quality for airlines, pumping equipment for water distribution, rapid deployment of CCTV security systems and environmental monitoring to protect against flooding.

The m2mGlobal Alliance Founding Membership is comprised of the following M2M network providers:

Vianet Ltd www.vianet.co.uk
KORE Telematics www.koretelematics.com
Mach Communications Pty Ltd www.machcommunications.com.au
Wireless Maingate AB www.maingate.se

Each company has a significant established presence exclusively focused on delivering Direct Connect M2M services in its own markets. Together, the m2mGlobal Alliance members can immediately service needs in the United Kingdom, North America, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Sweden and Norway and the Netherlands, in addition to more than 135 further roaming markets. From any partner, customers may now access local services at known preferred rates, supported by their existing trusted relationships, and benefit from the service quality, price points and guaranteed sustainable service offered by direct operator solutions.
